"It's fun, it's distinctive and if you don't 'get it', you're too old" said Steve Chalmers, editor of Fast Car magazine, about the new Soul Burner when it was chosen as 'Best New Model' for 2009 in the annual Fast Car magazine Awards.

First shown as a concept at the Detroit motor show in 2006, the Kia Soul emerged as a trio of concepts at Geneva in March 2008 and finally in full production-ready guise at Paris in September 2008 before going on sale in the UK at the start of March this year.

Readers of Fast Car magazine define trends and help to set the style for the modified car culture.

Steve Chalmers added; "Kia has taken a concept car, kept the best attributes and put it on the road. We couldn't believe that Kia had followed through from an awesome concept to production with the 18-inch wheels, dragon decal and distinctive red detailing. The UK model range has taken it's inspiration from the Geneva trio, adopting a five model line-up - entry level Soul 1, volume model Soul 2 and the 'Soul Originals', made up of three unique characters. The Soul Samba, Shaker and Burner take on individual styles and looks. Samba, only available in Tornado Red, features 18-inch five spoke alloy wheels, privacy glass and an eight-speaker stereo system with sub-woofer and separate amplifier.

Well, it’s a 5 Series day so we have no choice but to continue dropping on you more and more spy photos. While we don’t always crave those spy photos, we do admit that it makes everything more interesting, exciting…..guessing and speculating keeps us entertained.

So seeing the latest 2011 BMW 5 Series Touring spy shots, we decided to share them with you. The Wagon/Touring subject has been intensively discussed these past days by our readers due to a rumor going around that the Touring version in the U.S. might be phased out.

Now we know that most of the U.S. buyers are not Wagons die hard fans, but honestly, after looking at these new spy photos, the new 5 Series Wagon will be a stunning car…and this comes from someone that has never “fall” for these type of cars. The design lines and size seems to fit the car better than ever and even with the funky camouflage one, it’s still a good looking car.

The sportiness allure of the current 5 Wagon model has been carried over onto the new model and expanded even further, add a sport package to this new type of Wagon/Touring, and you might see a strong comeback in the U.S. market. The BMW 5 Series Wagon is considerably lower and sleeker than the Gran Turismo version, still keeping that sportiness much needed by the BMW buyers.

We’ve yet to see the MINI Coupe Concept in the flesh – let alone it’s Speedtser twin that has yet to be revealed, but parent company BMW officially confirmed today that both models will enter series production and that they are to be built at MINI’s Oxford Plant in the UK. The important announcement was made by Dr.Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management, BMW AG, during his two-day visit to the firm’s UK operations earlier this week.

Business Secretary Lord Mandelson commented: “The production of the two new MINI models is very good news for Oxford, and for the UK car industry. British drivers have had a long love affair with the MINI and I’m sure that this will continue for many years to come.”

The company said that the start dates for the production of the two new sporty MINIs that will join the existing line of Hatch, Clubman and Convertible models, all of which are made at the Oxford plant, will be confirmed at a later date.

The two seater coupe and its drop-top sibling will most likely be available with the 1.6-liter turbocharged MINI John Cooper Works power train that pumps out 211HP and a peak torque of 260Nm (192 lb-ft) or 280Nm (206 lb-ft) with the overboost function.

However, we wouldn’t be surprised if MINI also offers the standard MINI Cooper S’ 175HP 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol while a high-performance diesel option should be considered a possibility.

New Porsche 911 GT3 RSR offers more engine capacity and improved aerodynamics. The successful Porsche 911 GT3 RSR takes off into the new model year with extensive modifications. The most distinguishing feature of the new GT3 RSR is the re-designed nose with its large air outlets on the front panel. Furthermore, major changes were made to this quickest 911 beneath its light-weight bodyshell.

The capacity of the well-known six-cylinder horizontally-opposed ‘boxer’ engine has been increased from 3.8 to 4.0-litres. Kia Motors dealers in the UAE still haven’t gotten around to selling the 2010 Cerato compact sedan yet, but in its Korean home market where it is known as the Forte, Kia is already offering their first commercial hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), the Forte Liquid Petroleum Injection (LPI) Hybrid.

The Subaru Impreza WRC2008 rally car will make its competitive debut in the upcoming Acropolis Rally in Greece next week.

The new model will be the most radically different Subaru WRC rally car with pre-launch images revealing a new livery for the 2008 car of blue and silver instead of the yellow decals which have graced the manufacturer’s cars since 1993. Of course, the new rally car - based on the Impreza road car - will be in the form of a hatchback rather than sedan.

Hummer doesn’t seem like the likely candidate for General Motors to invest in a new model. After all, gas prices are still high, and it’s no secret that the Hummer brand is for sale. But a new model, a smaller one, looks to be in the works. This smaller model may entice companies to buy the brand. According to Automobile Magazine Hummer is considering something similar to the HX Concept. To be called H4, the new model would arrive around 2012 and give Hummer a direct competitor to the Jeep Wrangler.

The HX Concept is powered by a E85 FlexFuel 3.6L SIDI V6 engine mated to a six speed automatic transmission.

General Motor's (GM) $72,000 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid may be the worst-timed, least-relevant new model introduction in decades. The new Escalade is not without virtues, featuring advanced technology similar to Toyota's (TM) Prius which improves fuel economy 50% over gas versions, to 21 miles per gallon. Still, brash, ostentatious, and, well, gaudy, the Escalade makes the very opposite statement GM is trying to peddle as it begs Congress for a bailout worth billions.

The 6th China (Guangzhou) International Automobile Exhibition will open on the 19th of November. Over 30 new model cars will make their appearance in the Pazhou International Convention and Exhibition Center. There is an increase in the number of the exhibitors, total booth space and the number of vehicles on exhibit.

Tata Motors Chairman Ratan N. Tata announced that the company has created a model that will be exported to European markets – including Europe. The Indian car company unveiled this new model, the Tata Nano Europa at the Geneva Auto Show yesterday.

“In India, the Nano will be launched on March 23, and the cars will be on display at company dealerships from the first week of April,” said Mr. Tata. “The Nano has also generated wide interest in developed countries, since its unveiling in Delhi and its presentation here last year. We are delighted to present the Nano Europa for future launch in such markets.”

The Nano Europa is just 3.29 meters long (roughly 10.8 feet) and is 1.58 meters wide (roughly 5.2-feet). It features a slightly longer wheelbase than the standard model, for better handling as well as better interior space.

A more refined interior is also a part of the package.

The Nano Europa will be powered by a 3-cylinder aluminum engine mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. No output numbers are available but Tata says the engine will be class-leading – in terms of fuel-economy anyway.

Tata did say that the Europa already meets all European safety regulations, due to its energy absorbing design, air bags and use the of both ABS and stability control.

January 31, 2006: Starting this year, TAGAZ extends its model line of HYUNDAI PORTER, offering customers two additional modifications. The factory’s shop producing semi-trailers will be engaged into producing of van bodies.

The newly introduced van designed by TAGAZ has a number of distinctive features that take into account technical parameters of Porter's chassis. First, the body is made with observance of external overall dimensions of the car, which is important for driving in urban conditions. Second, total weight of the van increased only on 115 kgs, which allows keeping the same vehicle capacity. After much anticipation Volkswagen has finally released the fuel-economy numbers for the 2010 Golf TDI, with the DSG equipped model achieving a rating of 31/42 mg (city/highway). Manual transmission TDI models are rated at 30/41 mpg. As for the standard gasoline-powered Golf with the 2.5-liter engine, it is rated at 22/30 mpg.

The Golf starts at $17,490, while the TDI is priced from $21,990. The price increase for the TDI is based on VW’s decision to take it slightly more up-market, by equipping it with standard features like a stiffer and lower suspension and a touch screen audio system (like in the new 2010 GTI.. reviewed here). DSG models will get steering wheel mounted paddle shifters and expect to pay an $1,100 premium for VW’s advances DSG automatic transmission.

Following our post last month on the forthcoming Ford Focus RS, Ford have now released images and basic information of the new model, which will make its world debut later this month at The London Motor Show.

The car will go on sale in Europe in early 2009 with other markets following. This Focus will not be available in North America.

New EMS SUV sprint vehicles are equipped with the latest Whelen technology in emergency lighting and sirens. The ‘howler” is a new siren that emits a low frequency bass tone that is able to penetrate vehicles up to 200 feet away. Drivers and pedestrians will be able to “feel” approaching EMS vehicles.
Traditional sirens use a high frequency tone which may not be as easily heard. Many new model cars are configured with passenger compartments that reduce or buffer ambient noise making traditional sirens difficult to hear. Drivers will now be able to feel the bass from the howler siren.



The howler is currently installed in 7 SUV sprint vehicles and will be installed on all new ambulances.



“The new siren is great for maneuvering through dense traffic allowing for a faster response to emergency calls,” says EMS Deputy Director Carl Flores. “This new technology should aid in the reduction of response times to emergencies.”

Honda’s all-new Fit (Jazz) compact car has been revealed ahead of its world debut at next month’s Tokyo Motor Show and eventual sale early next year. The new model shares a striking resemblance to the one it will be replacing, including its angular headlights and tall roofline. The new car does, however, sport a smoother overall shape, new grille and new taillights.

Though official details are yet to be released, we can assume the car will be powered by a range of small capacity petrol engines including a possible 1.3L unit and larger 1.5L version. There’s rumor Honda may even launch a hybrid version of the Fit as well as a diesel variant for European markets.

The new car will be slightly larger than the current model, which should mean more interior space and better dynamics. Earlier prototypes were seen sporting flared wheel arches, likely hiding a wider track. As revealed by these official shots, Honda will release a premium model equipped with a LCD satnav system and a panoramic glass sunroof.

Hyundai Motor America Vice President of Product Development and Strategic Planning John Krafcik, speaking at the Center of Automotive Research Management Briefing Seminars, announced Hyundai`s all-new five-door compact will be named “Elantra Touring.” Elantra Touring will reach dealers in the spring of 2008 as a 2009 model year vehicle. The “Touring” name captures this all-new model`s combination of high-function and fun-to-drive character.Elantra Touring will once again extend Elantra`s product line into the compact five-door segment. (The previous generation also featured a sporty five-door model). Elantra Touring will come with class-leading standard safety technologies, including Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Traction Control, ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution, and six standard airbags, including side curtain airbags and active front head restraints. The vehicle will be the first compact five-door with standard Electronic Stability Control.1

Elantra Touring will have the most interior volume (passenger volume plus cargo space) of any five-door in its class and will be powered by the same fuel-efficient 2.0-liter, in-line four-cylinder found in the Elantra sedan. This newest Hyundai will also feature unique sport suspension and steering tuned for greater response and handling, while offering Hyundai`s first USB port, along with a standard auxiliary jack and standard XM Satellite Radio®. Elantra Touring`s competition will include the Toyota Matrix, Dodge Caliber and Mazda3.

Thanks due to the pollution being forced on our planet due to the CO2 emissions from natural fuel; most car owners are going in for producing more and more hybrid cars. The same is the case with the major Japanese car manufacturer Toyota Motor Corporation and they are planning to come out with their dedicated hybrid model for its luxury Lexis range. Though there are some hybrid cars under the Lexus range, they are quite costly, but this one is expected to be the cheapest priced model of them all. Currently more than 70% of the cars sold by this company are hybrids.One will be surprised to know that the biggest market for the hybrid cars manufactured by Lexus is Europe and not U.S. This new model, which is supposed to be released in 2009, shall be available only in Europe and Japan. Toyota wants to target young buyers with the Sports Limited Edition which comes with features like front and rear bumper spoilers, headlamp garnish, sleek side skirts and rear LED spoiler.Interior changes include contemporary dual tone seat fabric and wood finish rear cup holders, which give the feeling of luxury and elegance. Today, 2nd April, the covers come off the most important new model in Spanish car maker SEAT’s recent history with the unveiling of the all-new Ibiza five-door supermini.

The newcomer’s dramatic debut, at the firm’s Martorell HQ near Barcelona, marks the start of a major product offensive from the ambitious Spanish brand which will, over the coming months, also see the debut of further Ibiza variants, as well as striking new saloon and estate contenders in the upper medium segment.

All-new from the wheels up, and designed to reinforce SEAT’s position as a leader in the supermini sector, the bigger, better new Ibiza five-door has a range of ‘big car’ features to match its sharp styling.

The work of renowned ex-Lamborghini stylist Luc Donckerwolke, the new car offers a variety of class-leading options such as the availability of a new seven-speed DSG automatic/sequential manual gearbox, Hill Hold Assist, front fog lights with side illumination (cornering) function and combined AUX-IN/USB connectivity for all manner of music devices.

Longer than the current model – the new Ibiza breasts the tape at 4.05 m, versus the existing car’s 3.97 m – it’s markedly more capacious, too, with improved rear seat legroom and a significantly larger and more practical boot space which, at 292 litres with rear seats in place, is comfortably the largest in the supermini class.

Sitting on a new version of the renowned Ibiza ‘Agile Chassis’, with wider front and rear tracks (30 mm and 33 mm respectively) the new car looks and feels even more ‘planted’, and delivers both a composed ride and class-leading, sporty handling.

Debuting with a range of potent, proven powerplants, the Ibiza five-door promises both strong performance and outstanding economy. Beneath the bonnet, this front-wheel drive motor will initially offer three petrol engine options: either a characterful 1.2-litre three cylinder 70 PS; flexible 1.4-litre 85 PS four cylinder or sporty 1.6-litre four cylinder 102 PS.

All three come mated as standard to a sweet-shifting five-speed manual gearbox, and all have undergone engineering modifications to ensure emissions fall comfortably below 160 g/km.

SEAT’s success in offering sporty yet frugal diesel cars naturally means a raft of sophisticated direct-injection TDI Ibiza five-doors will debut in due course, too.

Safety and security have both been key considerations in the development of the new car, with the likes of new head and thorax-focused front side airbags, and the extensive availability of ESP and TCS.

Electric car startups in Silicon Valley have garnered some VC interest now that the price of oil has made alt energy a viable investment category again. It is also true in Europe, although it's not the brand name VCs jumping in just yet.
TH!NK was founded back in 1973 and had some success in the late nineties, but wobbled through the early part of this decade as it was bought and sold by several different investors, including the Ford Motor Co. over the years.

During a private function at the Paris motor show, Chairman and Chief Executive of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ian Robertson, confirmed that work has begun on a new model series.

Due to be launched by 2010, the new car will be smaller than the Phantom and cost between 200,000 Euros and 300,000 Euros before tax. Planning permission has been granted to expand business operations at Goodwood.

Sales of the Phantom should reach around 800 cars by the end of 2006, marking a fourth consecutive year of growth.

The Phantom and extended wheelbase version will soon be joined by a new convertible model which should hit the streets (of Monte Carlo) by 2007.

The Suzuki Swift has been an enormous success for the Japanese brand, capturing the same audience that Hyundai managed in the 90s with the Hyundai Excel, the Suzuki Swift has successfully brought Suzuki back into the Australian market.

But how will Suzuki follow up the swift? With the SX4 making its way in June, Suzuki’s new model is expected to sit below the Swift. Currently dubbed as the Suzuki Splash, the new model is based on the swift platform.

Nissan has announced the price of the new 350Z, with its uprated engine, to give a starting figure of £26,795 OTR for the Coupe and £28,295 OTR for the Roadster, representing an increase of only £300. This also includes the recently announced rise in road tax (up £90) and the first registration fee (up £12). Vehicle deliveries are expected to start from mid May.

Changes to the award winning 350Z include an 80% new engine which has meant, due to its taller stance, that the front bonnet has had to be discreetly redesigned with a slightly raised profile, giving it a look reminiscent of the original 240Z. There are also three new exterior colours on offer – Temper Orange, replacing Sunset, which contains a subtle green “flip” when seen in soft light conditions.

Twilight Grey and Night Blue complete the new shades replacing Gun Metal Grey and Azure Blue respectively. Solid Red, Universal Silver and Ebisu Black continue to remain available.

Inside, a new no cost option trim has been introduced called Frost. It has a pale grey tone and adds a touch of sophistication to the car’s interior. On the Roadster the frost trim can be ordered with a new grey coloured roof hood, also at no extra cost, replacing the previous availability of blue.

Safety and on road refinement has also been improved with the fitment of Active Headrests, to minimise the chances of neck injury in the event of a rear impact, plus the change over to Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tyres which aid refinement without losing any level of grip.

An illuminated ignition switch is the only other change made to the new model with all other levels of equipment remaining unchanged. As a memory jogger these include 18” RAYS forged alloy wheels, voice prompted phone activation with Bluetooth, gear change indicator, climate control air-conditioning, 6 CD auto-changer with cassette facility and 4 speakers.

Keeping you safe on the road are anti-lock brakes with Switchable Electronic Stability Control, bi-xenon headlamps plus, should they be needed, front, side and curtain airbags.

The GT pack which is a further £2500 includes heated and electric powered leather sports seats, a 240W Bose radio / cassette 6 CD autochanger with 7 speakers including a 10” sub woofer and audio pilot noise compensation technology, and cruise control. Alezan orange interior is a further £400 and if you want Birdview Satellite navigation then add £1200.

The HR in the engine code stands for High Revolution and High Response designed to improve the overall acceleration, feel and sound of the unit. Power is increased by 13PS giving a total of 313PS at 6800rpm with a further 500rpm added to the top end of the rev range – now standing at 7500rpm.

However, the real difference will be noticed lower down with 90% of the 358Nm torque (up 5Nm) being achieved at just 2000rpm (maximum at 4800rpm). These changes allow performance figures to improve with 0.1 of a second shaved off the 0-62mph time which means the Coupe now takes 5.7 seconds and the roadster 6.1. And, there is no change to either the combined fuel consumption figure or the CO2 emissions; 24.1mpg and 280g/km respectively for the coupe and 23.5mpg and 288g/km for the Roadster.

Saab 9-3 Convertible, Now Available With Sand

Nissan Announces Pricing On 2008 Altima Coupe

Nissan North America, Inc. announced pricing on the all-new 2008 Nissan Altima Coupe, which goes on sale May 25, 2007 at Nissan dealers nationwide. The newest extension of Nissan’s best-selling Altima lineup offers dramatic styling, a sport-inspired interior and a choice of two advanced powerplants –a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder or 3.5-liter V6 and 6-speed manual or Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) transmissions.

The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the 2008 Nissan Altima Coupe 2.5 S with 6-speed manual transmission is $20,490. Altima Coupe 2.5 S CVT with Xtronic CVT(TM) (Continuously Variable Transmission) starts at $20,990. The V6-equipped Altima Coupe 3.5 SE 6MT with 6-speed manual has an MSRP of $24,890, while the 3.5 SE Altima Coupe SE CVT with Xtronic CVT starts at $25,390.

Customers will be able to pre-order 2008 Altima Coupes at Nissan dealers beginning today under a special “Reserve Your Coupe” promotion.




The new Altima Coupe offers smaller dimensions, driver-oriented cockpit and unique styling, giving it a more sporty appearance and driving feel. Altima Coupe has a 4.0 inch shorter wheelbase and overall length is 7.1 inches less than the Altima Sedan. The Coupe also has a 2.5 inch lower profile than the Sedan version. The Altima Coupe and Sedan only share a common hood, with all other major panels, including the grille, headlights and rear combination lights unique to the Altima Coupe.

The new Altima Coupe is part of the fourth-generation Altima design, which utilizes Nissan’s all-new, highly acclaimed “D” platform with increased body rigidity and a redesigned suspension. This new platform was developed with the objective of making Altima one of the best performing large front-wheel drive vehicles available globally.

“The Altima Coupe sets itself apart from the segment by being more than just an Altima Sedan minus two doors,” said Bill Bosley, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division. “The driving performance of the Altima Coupe is biased toward sporty feel, especially when equipped with our award- winning V6. Handling is also a strong point of the new Coupe, as is the responsive feeling provided by the Xtronic CVT transmission.”

The 3.5-liter 24-valve DOHC V6 utilized in Altima Coupe 3.5 SE models is the “next generation” version of the 12-time Ward’s “10 Best Engines” award- winning VQ-series V6. For use in the Altima Coupe, it is rated at 270 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Available with the new Altima Coupe 2.5 S models is a 2.5-liter DOHC 16-valve QR25 inline 4-cylinder, producing 175 horsepower (170 hp CAL) and 180 lb-ft of torque (175 lb-ft CAL).

Altima Coupe models with the 4-cylinder engine are equipped with 16-inch wheels and tires, while V6-equipped Altima Coupes come with unique-design 17- inch aluminum-alloy wheels and 215/55R17 tires. All 2008 Altima Coupes also come equipped with standard 4-wheel, 4-channel, 4-sensor Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD).

The list of Altima Coupe passenger amenities includes standard Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition and available Bose(R)-developed audio system with nine speakers, Bluetooth(R) Hands-Free Phone System, satellite radio and dual-zone automatic temperature control.

Available technology features include a RearView Monitor, which utilizes a small camera to help show the view behind the vehicle when in reverse gear, and Nissan Navigation System with a 6.5-inch color monitor.

The new Altima Coupe also comes equipped with a number of standard safety features, including Zone Body construction with front and rear crumple zones and Advanced Air Bag System (AABS), which includes dual-stage front supplemental air bags.

Also standard are front seat side-impact supplemental air bags for chest protection and roof-mounted curtain side-impact air bags for front and rear outboard occupant head protection.

In addition to the new 2008 Altima Coupe, Altima is offered in a variety of Sedan models - including the 2.5, 2.5 S, 2.5 S with SL Package, 3.5 SE, 3.5 SL and Altima Hybrid (Hybrid Electric Vehicle). The new Altima is off to a strong launch, with 2007 calendar-year-to-date sales up nearly 19 percent through March.

2007 Ruf CTR-3

Exactly 20 years after the original CTR, German tuning house RUF has announced the introduction of its third generation CTR3 coinciding with the launch of its new plant in Bahrain. The latest version will be one of the fastest Porsches on offer when it’s released.

RUF has utilized racing technologies first seen on its 911-based RT12 offering. Powering the CTR3 is a twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat six engine pumping out 700 bhp at 7,000 rpm with torque topping out at 657 lb-ft. To save weight its developers added several unique body panels made from lightweight carbon-fiber as well as a new lattice tubing spaceframe.




Drive is sent to the wheels via a six-speed sequential manual gearbox that allows the CTR3 to hit 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 235 mph. Braking is done through 15-inch discs and 6-piston calipers front and rear. When the original CTR was released in 1987, it out-performed many of the supercars of its era including cars like the Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Countach and even Porsche’s own 959. The CTR3 is set to do the same but won”t come cheap as pricing is expected to fall at just over $500,000.

So you can basically change the actual shape of your car based on what features you activate. More of like a classy Thing.

This is currently no word on if this beautiful machine will actually go into production, but my vote is a definite yes!
